Janet and I agreed years ago that we couldn't be in the same league on account of one of us would finished better than the other. And if I was the one finishing better than her, I'd just have to move out, because there would be no end to the glowering.
So the Week 1 report? I won in both my leagues, and Janet lost in a way that proves that there is no God.
In the Manly Football League (no yardage points) I won 36-20 over a guy who has pretty owned my ass for years. It wasn't settled until Sunday night, when Tony Romo's big game pushed The Charleston Snobs ahead. Adrian Peterson chipped in a touchdown in relief of Cedric Benson, as did Torry Holt. Nate Kaeding and Vernon Davis were huge disappointments.
In my yardage league (Favorite Movie Villains, also on CBS Sportsline), the Nurse Ratched's Orderlies beat Hannibal Lecter 107-94. My big contributors were Ben Roethlisberger (30), Ronald Curry (19) and the Chargers (23).
Janet, however, suffered a highly improbable loss that played out at 1:30 EST Tuesday. I'll let her describe it. It was pretty horrible, particularly when you consider that we built a shrine to the football gods on Sunday morning.
This week's lineup decisions
In the MFL, I'm starting Peterson again, only this time Lawrence Maroney goes to the bench. It's Jon Kitna over Romo at QB. The question I'm having this week concerns WR Torry Holt. I love the guy, but I think he may struggle this week against the 49ers. I've got a nice alternative in Santonio Holmes, who I've been touting all off-season. Do I give Holmes the spot start?
In the Movie Villains League, Ronald Curry had a great Week 1, but in Week 2 he draws Champ Bailey, so it's off the the bench for Ronald and hello to my first waiver-wire starter of 2007, Deverey Henderson. Another waiver-wire pickup will probably get the start at defense, where I'm thinking about giving the Colts the nod over the Chargers.
