Remember "shock and awe?" If they aren't reading from a script, it's even worse. A script, at least, that implies that someone somewhere is thinking and can be disciplined and consistent. The alternative is the talking heads just latch onto a meme and can't stop themselves because that would require an independent, creative thought.
