Meme machines
I have been irritated by much bullshit over the last few days on such subjects as menopause, weight gain, the aging phobia, the unfairness of it all. I will spare you most of that, at least for this evening. But geezus, I am sick of the Obama scrutiny meme.
Out of sheer curiousity, I did a Google search on "Obama and scrutiny" after reading yet another post/article/commentary about the alleged lack of Obama scrutiny. There are more than 400,000 hits. I ran through a goodly number of them from conservative blogs to liberal ones, from esteemed news agencies (and I use the term loosely) to podunk pundits.
Enough already. I have no problem with thorough explorations of the guy or gal who would be president. Have at it. But, oh gods of modern media, don't simply pass the virus like snot on a door handle.
If he hasn't had any real scrutiny, whose fault is that? Who are you scolding? If there is anything substantive to be found, go freaking find it, instead of repeating what others have already said (since last year) as though you are sages on the mountain.
Is anybody doing substantive political journalism anywhere? Bueller? Bueller?

Yes I have done the research. Here it is:

Do you think that any of the reason for the lack of research is that the man has put out, of his own accord, 2 autobiographical books? I mean, fact checks have been done for those and came up with the shocking suggestion that he didn't do as many drugs as he suggested. (Real question, btw, not rhetorical.)
Part of the reason I was slow to jump on the Obamawagon is that there wasn't more media discussion of his career and what that meant for his hypothetical presidency. I know that all this "he hasn't been scrutinized" whining is supposed to be a complaint against the man, but I think it could very well give him a bounce. Not that he's a saint, but the history goes that the better he gets known the more popular he gets.
Maybe not. Just a thought.
