This one will run on Aug. 29...
... and this one will be the last of my cartoons to run in the paper (Sept. 5).
These Tuesdays when I stay home and draw have been my saving grace over the last 18 months. It's the part of my work routine I'll miss the most.
For the sake of comparison, this is the first Fun & Games cartoon, from March 2007...
Back then, we (Janet, myself, and then-Features Editor Judy Watts, who has since moved on to bigger and better things elsewhere) figured that a cartoon caption contest would be one of several reader games that we planned to rotate through the page. But the reader response to the caption contest was so strong compared to the others that after the first month I just made it a weekly component.
I don't know what they'll do with the page after Sept. 5 (although I've been told the page will continue past that issue), but I don't think I've so enjoyed anything else I've ever done professionally.
And man, I'm sure hoping there are a few more surprises like this one out there.
(Reminder: Click the images to see them larger.)
I'm going to miss your stuff in the P&C, but it sounded very much like they were eating your soul. There will be something wonderful coming soon.

Professional joys are often few and far between, so I am really glad you had this one...which by the way gave fun and joy to others as well. Cartoons, who would have thought! you have always been great at cartoons....don't stop just because the page and the Fridays are gone..... keep up the funny work and just put it on xark! AND there WILL be WONDROUS surprises ahead..no question about it.
