My mother, Joyce, was raised in little Eldora, Iowa, but her family moved to Florida when she was about 13. In November, my travels took me within two hours of Hardin County, where our family once had deep roots, and so on Nov. 7 I toured the area with my camera. This Flickr photo set and this annotated Google map are the result, and it's my Christmas present to my mom for 2009.
Love you, Mom. I hope this feels like taking a little trip back home.

Daniel....I am so touched by all you did....You actually READ all that stuff I sent you, didn't you?! Looks like home still....lots of changes but still the same in so many ways.....That storm did a major thing on this small town....it is a shame and will take a long time to recover from.
Newcomer Building.....FYI, that is the Newcomer family, a rather big wig family of old in Eldora.... your thoughts were great but down the wrong road! I am trying to decifer which of those buildings and storefronts on that side of the square was the jewelry store of Ezra Nuckolls...it was one of them and I will figure it out but have not as yet....
Daniel, thank you so much! This is something I will cherish forever....the photos but mostly the fact that you DID it for me and in a very special way we got to share this together and I do appreciate that.
I will comment more on all of this but need to go cook Christmas dinner right now because Dawn and crew will show up and there won't be anything to eat!
Thanks again.....what a trip, Dan! More later.....love you....a grateful Mom
